The Loss of a Treasured Friend

Frances Stevens Reese has been actively involved in the Maple Grove Restoration Project Steering Committee since it was established in the year 2000. Franny's energy, her sense of humor, her creativity, and her memories of the local history of Poughkeepsie and the Mid-Hudson region were an invaluable resource as the Maple Grove project moved forward. She gave advice and established contacts for us; she offered to take minutes at meetings, contributed insight and resources, and even brought cheese and crackers for our lawn parties. Her death in July 2003 deprives us of a supporter and a dear friend. We shall miss her greatly.

During the week of May 26, Jon Behrends (Precision Contractor), archaeologist Lucy Johnson (Anthropology Professor at Vassar College), and Ben Horst volunteered their efforts on the bracing of the kitchen wing at Maple Grove. Their help was invaluable at this time. There is plenty more work to be done at Maple Grove and on the grouds. If you would like to be involved, please contact grounds@maplegroveny.org.
